Hey everybody,
Here's a really bizarro problem I've run into: I've set up a paragraph style to auto-number exhibits in my document. It's been working fine for months and now it's started skipping numbers. Sometimes even between 2 consecutive lines of text. The first will say “Exhibit 3” and the next will say “Exhibit 5”. What gives? What happened to 4?
I'm working on a complex multi-hundred page book in InDesign CS3 on Windows XP. And this is part of an InCopy workflow so all the files live on the servers here in the office. This document has many different paragraph, character and object styles. This particular style that stopped working is used in several different chapters in this same book and different stories (each with a different InCopy assignment) in this same chapter.
It's only happening in the first story of my largest chapter (total about 200 pages, this story is about 30 pages). All sidebars, exhibits, imported graphics, tables etc. are anchored in the text. I have several figures that need to run landscape in an otherwise portrait book. This number skipping problem is only happening between normal text boxes and normal text boxes with these landscape elements anchored within them (3 instances total and it happens consistently to all) and right at the end of the story (only one instance obviously). There are 19 other stories in this document and it doesn't happen in any other story.
Like I said this same style has been working fine for months. The style hasn't hasn't been edited in months neither has the character style it uses. Best I can tell is that the list has gotten corrupted somehow. Is this possible? I've tried deleting the list or creating a new one and the same problem occurs in the same places. Maybe the content file for the InCopy assignment is corrupted?
I need help! Help me reclaim my 4 mysteriously absent exhibit numbers.
Thanks in advance. =)
