      Hi folks

I'm a copy editor/proofreader, not a designer, and find this kind of thing hard to explain. But here goes.

I use InDesign 6. My preferred increment for Kerning/Track is 1/1000 em (the default of +/- 20 is way too high).

But my preference never “sticks” to become the new default. Any subsequent file I open goes back to +/- 20.

This me drives me gaga. I suddenly find that instead of having kerned a par by, say, three increments (I use Control + Arrows), the type has been squeezed to -60 and looks hideous.

Any ideas on how to default permanently to the smaller increment?

      Thanks!

      John

Make your change without any documents open. It won't fix any existing documents, but any new documents should use the new setting.

Thanks, now I know. But think I will have zero of a chance convincing the designers to alter their preferred settings …
