Indesign program loads, but it hangs the moment I try anything

      I moved to a Mac recently and bought 5.5 for Mac and loaded it. The program loads, and I can start a new document, book etc. But the moment click on any tool the program hangs until I force quit it.
      I’ve tried loading Indesign with an existing file and the same thing happens. I tried starting it with shift, control, option, command and I can see the file but again as soon as I try to use a tool, it hangs.
      I have tried deleting the program and reloading it but there is no change.

      Any ideas??
