      I’m having a strange issue with inconsistent sizing of the Unicode characters for an empty and a ticked ballot box (in separate paragraphs like a list). It happens when viewed in Kindle Previewer but not another ebook reader. The boxes are styled the same in InDesign and I have tried various things with CSS or putting them in a table to try to make them the same size in the viewer, but it seems like the empty one always gets collapsed smaller (or maybe the one with the tick is growing larger!). Does anyone know why it’s doing this please and how I can fix it?

      Can you screenshot and share:
      1) InDesign source
      2) Export settings
      3) what you see in KDP

      Thanks, Steve. How do I post a screenshot here please?

      Which characters/typeface are you using for these?

      I should have said the characters I am using are Arial Unicode MS (but same happens with other fonts):
      2610 ballot box
      2611 ballot box with check

      Are you able to share the source doc of this snippet and the resultant epub?

        No, can’t share it sorry. I guess I could create a new doc with some random text to replicate the problem.

        Snippet: Just create a new doc and replicate the above 3 lines and the epub that you’ll export from it.

      OK, I took a look, the space on the first line is inside the SPAN and is Arial Unicode MS whereas the other two are in Minion Pro.
      I flipped it over and it previews fine for me in Kindle.

      Thanks very much for looking, Steve. I think that was just a mistake by me in setting up the test file. It’s not like that in my original (the character style only applies to the box characters). However, I’ve fixed the test file and tried again and I’m still getting the different sized boxes in Kindle Previewer. So I’m flummoxed :-)

        My preview comes up just fine in Kindle Previewer (when i move the space), the version you sent replicates what your problem is.

        Maybe fully declare your boxes!
        <p class=”Main-text_checklist”><span class=”checkbox”>☐</span> Basic Space Clearing</p>
        <p class=”Main-text_checklist”><span class=”checkbox”>☑</span> Essential Space Clearing</p>
        <p class=”Main-text_checklist-last”><span class=”checkbox”>☑</span> Full Space Clearing</p>

      It’s still displaying wrongly in Previewer for me though… Here’s the code. The spans look correct?

      <div id=”_idContainer000″ class=”Basic-Text-Frame”>
      <p class=”Main-text_checklist”><span class=”checkbox”>?</span> Basic Space Clearing</p>
      <p class=”Main-text_checklist”><span class=”checkbox”>?</span> Essential Space Clearing</p>
      <p class=”Main-text_checklist-last”><span class=”checkbox”>?</span> Full Space Clearing</p>
      </div>

      ETA Box characters lost in above, but they’re in the real code

      However, I’ve now tried in the Kindle for PC app and it looks fine there, so I’ve no idea what’s going on. I updated my Kindle Previewer to the latest version, so it’s not that. I’ll try clearing everything and starting again.

      ooh, it rendered them here:
      put:
      & # x 2 6 1 0 for unchecked box (remove spaces)
      and
      & # x 2 6 1 1 for checked boxes (remove spaces)
