I am having a problem getting consistent results when exporting press files from indesign to pdf.
I’m still trying to get my head around colour profiles so apologies if I am going about this the wrong way.

      Ingredients:
I have an RGB image placed in indesign, which has areas of colour that exceed the ink weight requirement for the destination (220TAC).
I do not wish to edit the original image for each destination, and want to use a ICC profile to deal with the ink weight conversion.
I have installed the ICC profiles from VIGC and am using the Uncoated 220TAC profile.
      https://en.vigc.be/download/vigc-icc-color-profiles/

The image in indesign has the Uncoated 220TAC profile assigned.

I also have a rich black swatch in indesign that is 220TAC.
I export using the modified Press Setting (Convert to destination, preserve numbers+Destination profile as above), but when i check the file in Acrobat not only does the image still have areas that have TAC higher than 220, but the Rich black CMYK makeup has been altered. I’m also viewing using the simulation profile of the same ICC profile.

I’m hoping that someone can explain the best workflow from indesign>pdf.

Do I need to convert “convert the colours” in acrobat (tried this and still not resolved)…
      I cannot work this out!!
      Please help!

Try the new gwg2015 settings and pdf/x4. The profile TAC220 can still be used.

Thanks Gert—can you please be more specific?
      ie best workflow?
      Where to find gwg2015 settings?
When to apply the TAC220 profile?

      Two things come to mind:
First, this does not make sense: “The image in indesign has the Uncoated 220TAC profile assigned.”
The image should have the RGB profile, not a CMYK profile (if it is an RGB image).

Second, my guess is that you are trusting Acrobat’s preview too much. It sometimes lies! See:

Why You Can’t Trust Acrobat’s Separation Preview

I have a course on color management at lynda.com/LinkedIn Learning, which may be helpful!
