Please help my InDesign file size is 3.03MB, when I exported it to EPUB it turned to 11.MB, I converted it to MOBI format using amazon Kindle previewer then the size moved up to 15.6MB.

As I tried to upload the MOBI format to amazon, it took a long time and turned out to be unsuccessful, amazon kindle said (we are unable to upload your file at this time, try again later.

I know that the problem could be the file size which is too high up to 15.6MB where’re it should not be up to 1MB.

Please I thought that when an InDesign file if is exported to EPUB, the file size suppose to reduce instead of increasing. Is there any application that I can use to reduce the file size of the EPUB file before converting it to MOBI format?

There is no image in containing the file except cover image which is 2.36MB

I know MOBI format should not be up to 1MB for amazon to accept it.

      Please help

      Hey Jerry,

That is unexpected to see the exported file size be that large, especially if the only image is the cover. Just wondering, you exported to reflowable ePub correct? I could see accidentally exporting to Fixed Layout ePub causing the file size to be exceptionally larger than normal.

      Check it’s not fixed layout.
If it’s any help with how big these things can be, I am working on an epub3 fxl that outputs over 200MB, and the Yellow Submarine ebook is over 300MB

      Sampson,

You used kindle previewer to convert to mobi, previewer adds the original epub file into the mobi, so you have a mobi 7, kf8 and epub file altogether, increases the size. Sometimes it doubles it, other times it only adds slightly more. When you submit it to kindle though, they strip out the epub file, so size shouldn’t even be a problem. I’ve uploaded 400mb ebooks via kdp to amazon, works just fine, but it will take a while on amazon’s size to accept the upload and for it to go through.
