I’m having difficulty putting into words what I am trying to do which makes Googling unproductive!

I want to mould a single word (psychedelia, in a “trippy” font like synthemesc) into an oval shape. I have found out how to flow text into a shape but that isn’t the effect I’m going for – that is good for instance for putting a whole paragraph into an oval.

I have tried “create outlines” but not sure where I should go from there. Transform doesn’t seem to be the way to go. I wonder if clipping paths may be the way forward but I can get text to flow along a path but not to traansform a single word into an oval.

I would describe myself as a user of InDesign at the beginner/intermediate level at best. I am thoroughly enjoying learning InDesign. It is immensely powerful – but I feel that at the moment my use of it is like using a cobine harvester to mow my front lawn!
If I can find examples of the kind of thing I am trying to achieve I will post back.

Any pointers gratefully received, even just single words describing the menu item I need to select.

      Thanks for listening.

What you want is not something InDesign is good at, it seems more like a job I would do in Illustrator. It looks like you want to create some kind of logo design. What you could do is put all the letters individually in a text box, outline them and create a composition with that.

        Thank you.

I am literally an amateur so this is not for a specific job, it is more about learning how to use the creative software. But yes, a logo design is the kind of thing I’m aiming for. I will see what I can do with Illustrator.

Thank you for pointing me towards Illustrator. This is what I needed – https://youtu.be/xE_W3g-rxls

Hi David, I think you might be wanting to warp the text inside a shape? If so, here are a couple of links to Adobe forums discussion with pointers:

      https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/warp-text-effect-in-indesign/td-p/10131063
      https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/can-i-quot-warp-quot-text-in-cc-indesign-not-wrap-quot-warp-quot/m-p/8898969

The gist is you would need to do it in Illustrator or Photoshop and place in ID.

      Nick
