How often does the software get upgraded?

Or, to put it another way, does Adobe have a stated policy of updating the software at set periods – it feels like every two years (perhaps it's just my imagination).

And . . . my follow up question: when was CS5 launched?

Adobe has said they like to update every 18-24 months. CS5 came out around the end of April, which was about 18 months since CS4, I think. But I also know that many people have asked Adobe to have longer periods between upgrades… it's hard for everyone, especially with so many programs in the suite.

Thanks. So I suppose on that basis I should be looking for CS6 this time next year?

The problem I am finding is that my company is rather reluctant (which is putting it mildly in these straightened times) to invest in the necessary upgrades and when the upgrade is made (through necessity), it then follows that a further upgrade is made shortly afterwards . . . and so on. I would certainly appreciate a larger gap before CS6 is released.
