Forcing a directory listing onto next column

I’m working on a directory in InDesign. Inn case a listing doesn’t fit inside a column (and the document runs in three) I would like each one to start at the top of the next column. Is there a setting or a script I could use to force that to happen? Naturally I am using paragraph and character style sheets. I thank everyone for any help you could provide.

This is a good use for the Keep Options settings in the paragraph styles definition.

Thank you David. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, but those setting are not working for me.
I hope this link to my Google Drive works, if so, have a look at the screen shot and I apologize, this document is in French.
I basically want all the listing headings to automatically start in the next column if they don’t fit in previous, and not split between them.
It’s likely that I’m not using the Keep Option settings correctly, but this is just not working for me.

Can you post that graphic with hidden characters turned on?

The reason is so that we can see how many paragraphs you have in each listing.

Sure. There are also three paragraph styles so far. I just started to format this document.

I would say you need to use the “Keep with Previous” option for all the paragraphs except the heading.

Unfortunately this is still completely not working for me. Keeps breaking up. I’ll keep trying. Thanks for your help.

By chance do some of the paragraphs have “Keep with Next” also applied? If both keep with Previous and Keep with Next are applied, and there is too much text to fit in the frame, InDesign has to make a decision where to break, and it’s usually not where you want.

That is exactly what was happening. The breaks were unpredictable. I tried one style, more than one, still wasn’t working.
Unfortunately I’m doing these manually now.
