Footnotes over multiple stories

      I took over a project from a designer that has 50+ chapters. She had each one set up in a sep. ID file.
      I completed the work then combined then into 6 files (front matter, 4 sections, back matter).
      The problem is that the chapters are each in their own story – they aren’t linked – so the footnotes keep renumbering from 1.
      I’d like them to continue in their numbering.
      Every time I try and link the text boxes, ID crashes.

      What can I do to allow for continuous numbering?

      Uncheck “Restart Numbering Every:”
