      Hi there

So, i just recently started using Suitcase Fusion 6 Font Management software. I have a piece of text that i am trying to find the right font for, scrolling through their review i find a couple of ideal candidates. Open up indesign to try them out but only the regular weight is available? Other weights like bold, italic are not available? I look up and down the font menu for a separate entry for the different weights, as is sometimes the case with fonts, nothing. I go back to Suitcase Fusion, right click ‘open in finder’ (i’m using a Mac) the font weight is definitely there in fonts, but unavailable in Indesign. It is not just a rogue font, there are at least 3 or 4 so far.

      Any suggestions???

      Thank you!

Maybe a font conflict? Is it possible that the font ID is seeing is a system font? If so, ID will use the system font and not the font you have loaded into Suitcase.

To check the font path, highlight the font that is being used in ID, go to “find font” and get more information. That will show you the path.

That’s all I can think of at the moment.

Is the font open type or postscript? If the latter, sometimes the printer font will be provided but not the screen font (and vice versa).

      I don’t use Fusion 6, so I don’t know if it’s a problem with that.

        Hi Dwayne

Thanks again, always for your help. I hear you about the system font, one of them actually is a system font, Cochin. I can see all the weights in it’s folder, in fontbook, and in suitcase, but it is not appearing in Indesign. Strange.

So far as Cochin–it sounds like the system font is being used instead of the font you loaded in suitcase. And InDesign will always use the system font first and ignore the suitcase one.

What happens if you remove Cochin from your system folder?

I personally keep my system, library, and user library fonts to the bare minimum. In fact, my library fonts and user library fonts I always move to a disabled fonts folder (in case I ever need to use them). And system fonts are the bare minimum (I even remove zapf, symbol, etc.) And all the fonts that InDesign installs? I move them to a disabled folder instead.

We do that on all the machines at work because of font conflicts that arise otherwise.

So it seemed to me after a bit of online research that a good solution might be to clear the font cache, hmmm, not so good, now indesign doesn’t recognise half my fonts! Not even some system fonts.

        Well, that sucks :(

Yeah! Ok, so i restarted after i managed to get my typekit fonts to re-sync and most of the fonts are back, but the original post remains and a few other weights that were previously available are unavailable now!

So i short, back to square one , but with less weights available than before. Maybe i should try moving them to a disabled folder as you suggested previously.

Thanks again for your help Dwayne, always much appreciated!

Good luck, Andy. I’m always glad to try to help.
