When importing a txt file for my book manuscript, it changed all bullet points to asterisks (plus a single space). I would like to change all of these back to bullet points. That is, removing the asterisk and space, replacing it with a bullet point (and formatted paragraph style for indents). I think I have the coding wrong in the GREP Find/Change query, because it responds with “Cannot find match.” I am a newbie and terrible with codes – any help is appreciated!

      Hey Kelly,

For finding asterisks and changing them to bullets (I’m assuming you are using the bullets feature within Paragraph styles), in GREP Find/Change,

      Find: \*
      Change: [leave blank]

If you are wanting to replace the asterisk with a literal bullet (and tab ),

      Find: \*
      change: ~8

Thank you so much, Aaron! I am using the bullets feature within paragraph styles. So your first option works to find the asterisk and add a bullet point (paragraph style), but it does not delete the asterisk (it keeps it included with the tabbed text following the bullet). Any thoughts on this?
Your second option worked well, although I would rather use the paragraph style.

      Thanks, Kelly

Ah! I just did it twice – one Find/Change for the bullet formatting, then a second Find/Change to delete asterisks. That worked! I am so grateful for your help, you saved me so much manual effort!
