When making an index is there a way to exclude certain paragraph styles from being indexed? I have a book in which the author has created manual endnotes at the end of each chapter. Let’s say I want a name indexed, but not when it appears in the endnotes. Ideally, I would be able to exclude the endnote paragraph style when adding all occurrences of a word or name. In the past I have been able to avoid indexing sections of a book (like the bibliography which is not generally indexed) by keeping those sections in separate documents which are not open when I’m indexing the main body of the book. That doesn’t apply here, as the endnotes are at the end of each chapter.

How are you making the index? Normally, you’d build the index one entry at a time, so you’d just not include those parts you don’t want in the index.

But if you’re using the Add All feature… no, you can’t pick and choose. I do not recommend using that feature because it often creates a bloated index. Indexes need to be hand-crafted.

I don’t disagree with you. But this job is being done on spec, and there’s a limit to how much crafting I’m willing to put into it.

      Hi,

David, will you let me say:

“Yeap! it could be totally doable! …”
