      Hi

I recently created a poster in ID, with a photo image (JPEG) overlaying a coloured text box for which i applied a gradient feather to the image to allow it to blend into the coloured box.

All’s good on screen when i’ve created it, problem is when i PDF to share it the gradient feather disappears and therefore i have 2 separate entities…

Not sure why as i’m a beginner to all this as learning on line and have no one to ask:-)

Any guidance or advice greatly appreciated…

      Thanks Andrew

      Andrew, here’s what I’d try:
Ensure your document is in the right colour space for your output (Edit > Transparency Blend Space)
A good rule of thumb if you are working with transparency is to put the elements on a separate layer (usually the text layer will be on the upper layer). That often fixes the problem.
Next up is to ensure you are creating the right type of PDF. The more recent the PDF type (i.e. 2008) the better the transparency support.
      Any help?

Thanks Caspian, I’ve checked the Transparency space and this is correct in CMYK, similarly the text is on the top layer, but still having same issue.

I forgot to say the ID images are from another ID files where i originally created the posters, so have placed the ID image into a splash sheet with others.

The original ID files with the individual posters are fine when i PDF those, could this be the problem?

Are the links/JPGs (from the original ID file) still accessible (i.e. the files still exist on your HD)? Is you links panel looking good? Everything linked correctly?

Yes, images are all correct no issues with links etc

Hmm…Strange… I’m not sure what else to try without seeing the file. Maybe someone else has some bright ideas…?
What are you looking at your PDF in? not all PDF readers are created equally.

Thanks …I’ve just swapped one of the original photo’s for a much better quality image (7mb v 111kb) and it seems to have rectified the problem?

The low res one was just a holding image, does that now make more sense?
