My company creates statewide association directories for several companies. The directories list members of the association, board members, GMs, and some stats about each company in the association. This is all pretty uniform information but needs updating every year.

We use the old-school method of providing PDFs of the previous years’ content and each company in the directory is asked to update their information on the PDF and return that to us. We then manually make the changes. As you can imagine, this is a laborious process with much room for error and requires too many revisions.

Do you know of a process or web tool we could use to make content available and updatable online by each association and then port that updated data to our InDesign file?

      1. Adobe Incopy
      2. Share for review directly from InDesign
      3. Import PDF annotations directly into indesign and just accepted this changes (works with CC19)

      I like Lukáš’s idea.
However, for directories, I would recommend flowing it quickly using a tool like Em Software’s InData. I have done very complicated directories with it.
There are also scripts that help you do something similar using Data Merge, such as:

Data Merge Into Inline Anchored Objects So They Flow in a Story

      and

Using Data Merge to Create a Table for a Directory

Yes! This was the type of tool I was looking for. Do you know of any consultants who specialize in this type of work and could help me set it up?

One company we’ve worked with is AvatarDPS. The owner, Coletta, wrote this article some years ago about data publishing:

      Automated Publishing
