Hello! I recently started using the Smart Text Reflow, and am having some challenges.
Right now, I just want to delete several pages of text. When deleting text, pages automatically delete too, and when all my text/pages shift, it causes the wrong master pages to be assigned throughout the entire document. I tried turning off Smart Text Reflow, also turned off “Allow Pages to Shuffle” (not sure if that is really related here).
I just want to maintain pages/masters/spreads where they are (with their current text), and delete several pages of text. I feel like I need Excel’s “Copy-PasteSpecial-Values” equivalent, to keep all my text where it is! I am going batty! And never want to use the Smart Text Reflow feature again!!
There has to be a simple fix for this – thanks for putting up with the newbies.

      Hi Kelly,

Have you tried unchecking “Delete Empty Pages” in Preferences > Type? It’s located in the Smart Text Reflow section at the very bottom.

      Hi David,

Yes, that box is un-checked. Perhaps I need to (somehow?) turn off threading between several pages, and then delete text? Is that possible?

I found the answer, and just have to share my excitement! There is a “StorySplitter” script (by Adi Ravid) that I have installed, which allows me to break the threading at any particular point. Then I can delete text and delete pages without everything shifting. I am a happy camper!
      Script found here: https://indesignsecrets.com/how-to-split-long-story-into-smaller-pieces-unthreading-middle-story.php
