OK, not directly an ID issue, but it's for stuff I want to use in ID…

Ages ago I bought CorelDRAW 6 for the Mac. (Yes, the Mac.) The software is hopelessly obsolete, but it came with a great clip art package. The only other program that would ever open them was Illustrator 8 (AI 9 + won't open them). My old Mac with Classic conked out.

Anyone have any idea how I can get these files open? I can't even figure out their extension.

      Thanks.

I honestly don't know, but I wonder if they're .pict files. You might try opening them in Photoshop…?

      Hi, David.

Have since learned they are compressed corel files (.CMX).

Unless corel has changed things just recent there clipart are vector

They will be in a format Coreldraw can read if they are cdr or cmx. illustrator will read some corel clipart think it has to be cdr not sure about cmx

Even with cdr it depends on which version of coreldraw they where saved under.

I just purchased Corel X7. I am wondering if there has been any new developments with getting Corel clip art, graphics files, etc. into InDesign CS 5 (I have the CS 5 suite) directly or indirectly. I know so little about graphics so I am hoping the steps will be easy and clear. I am trying to learn more about both programs in Lynda.com. I don’t know what I would do without David Blatner and Marie Concepcion with their marvelous instruction. Thanks to all the contributors on this site. If you know what it’s like starting from zero, you can appreciate help given from this community.
