copying and pasting from earlier InDesign files into 2018 InDesign

      I used to be able to copy and paste pages or items on pages from earlier catalogs, etc that I work on and now InDesign 2018 pastes these in as IMAGES not editable copy and images. This is a serious problem for me as a designer. What is going on? What am I missing? WHY? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
