I am having an issue using GREP. Many times I have italic parentheses in text and rather than doing a search and replace them them to change them to the roman font, instead I have created a style sheet for the roman version of the font I am using. I have the string “\(“ for selecting the parenthesis and making it a roman version of the font in the paragraph style. But it never takes. I can change other attributes like font color and width and other things to make it obvious and those other attributes “take,” but the change from roman to italic does not change, no matter what font I use. Any ideas at all on this one?

First, to target both opening and closing parentheses, use [()]
And set the character style in the Change Format panel.

It works fine over here. Can you show a screenshot of the Find/Change window as you you it?

Hi Peter! Thank you for the quick response. It’s not in Find/Change where I am trying to do this, but rather in the paragraph style sheet itself. Like I said, I can change the parantheses to a different color, different width, all sorts of things, but I cannot change it from italic to roman. Remember, it’s a GREP setting I am using in the paragraph style itself, not Find/Change. In F/C, it works fine.

Ah, a GREP style. Well, if it works in the Find/Change window it should work as a GREP style too. Let’s see what Dhafir Photo comes up with.
