Is there a way to change the colour of lineart but retain the transparent background, without changing in Photoshop?
I know that I can save a TIFF as grayscale and change the colour in InDesign. However, the background isn’t transparent.

Is there a quick and easy way to do this?

Grayscale images are not transparent. You could select the image inside the frame (with direct selection tool) and change the blending mode to Multiply in the Effects panel. Will that work?

Thanks David. That’s what I’d normally do. However, the image is a black and white lineart scan, and they also want a version that is white on a dark background as well as a couple of other variations.

A solution I’ve worked out is to convert the image to a bitmap, rather than a grayscale, in Photoshop and then save as a TIFF. I can then change the colour of the artwork in InDesign and retain the transparent background.

Does this seem like a decent workaround to you?

      Thanks again.

Yes, if you’re getting the image quality you want/need, then that should be good. Bitmap typically needs to be much higher resolution. Some articles on the topic:
