Automating a data merge

I have a daily CSV coming to me soon (haven’t got that bit sorted yet for how it’s coming (FTP or emailed)) which needs to be mail merged in to an ID template which I have set up. I want to automate a way that after the CSV is dropped in to a hotfolder (happy using AppleScript here) and opening up ID, I want ID to automatically merge the data and save a PDF in a separate folder, where another script will pick it up and dump it on a different FTP.

Is there any ‘off-the-shelf’ scripts anyone knows of that’ll just trigger the data merge and save, like this..?

      Cheers

I’ve never heard of something like this, but I believe it could be done.

ok, worked it out, wasn’t too hard.
Also got it to rename the PDF to todays date and time, and then move the PDF to an FTP folder. Was quite satisfying to work out actually!
Was all in Mavericks at work though. Got home and tried it on Yosemite (where it’ll be used) and Apple have changed so much about how it works, it’s wrecked about half of it, so have to work it out again!! grrrrrrr

But anyways, worked awesome, isn’t hard.

This is exactly what I’m trying to do. If you have any insight into your process it would be incredibly helpful. I feel like I can manage the file handeling side of things, but ID scripting is new to me. I feel like the ask is pretty simple, open file, update data source, export… but I’m out of my depth and struggling to make it happen.
