Adobe–Discontinued Support Type 1 Fonts

      Adobe announcement of Discontinued support of Type 1 fonts is a major change. (See Steve Werner Article Adobe is Ending Support for Type 1 Fonts)

      I have files that I access that dates back 25 years. I access these on a regular basis. I have concerns that changing is not a simple click of the button. For instance. DIN Type 1 may have slight differences than DIN-Pro which is Opentype, which may cause a different look in the file. How will everyone handle this change? What is the best way to purge you system of the Type 1 fonts AND will the effect the computer Operating system fonts?

      It’s pretty frustrating, to be honest. And ultimately we’re not really going to know the reality for another year or two. Like, will Type 1 literally stop working? Or will it work, but just not be “supported” officially?

      You are absolutely right that an updated font may have different metrics and will therefore cause reflow.

      One option is to convert the Type 1 font to OpenType with a tool such as the one Mike writes about here:
