I’m designing a cookbook that is close to 400 pages long.
It is arranged per month with recipes appropriate for different times of the year.
Each section has its own table of contents. I took some recipe images and put them on the side of the TOC and I have a little box in the corner of the image with the page number that recipe can be found on. Is there a way to set a variable within the text box that it would grab the page number that image is found on within the file?
So if there would be a picture of mushroom soup on page 36, the text box on top of the thumbnail of that same image would automatically get a 36 on it?

      Thanks.

You could set it up with cross-references

Let me know if you need further help in setting it up.

      Thanks, Eugene.
I’m going to take a look at that – never done it before.
I’ll post if I need more help.

Yeah, but even then it would be tricky. X-refs only work with text, not images. So you’d have to have some “invisible” text on each page with a picture, and then cross-ref to that.

At that point, seems almost as much word as doing it manually… what would be the advantage? In case pages move?

Not sure if this would be helpful, but this sounds similar to something I did a few years ago: “How to Incorporate Chapter Thumbnail Images into an Auto-Generating Table of Contents”

Wow, Kelly – that’s quite complex!
I read through it and now I’m going to try it on my own with my design and see if I can make it work. Its not exactly what I’m trying to do, but maybe I can base something off of this.

I’ll keep you posted – thanks so much!
