      Hello IndesignSecrets,

I have an interesting question regarding 2 text frames next to each other.
As the question might not be that obvious first hand, I will do my best to explain it as easy as possible.

      Here goes, …

Lets say, we have 2 textframes: A and B.
B is right next to A. (so with no space between them, but directly touching each other)
We setup textframe A to change it’s width dynamically based on the amount of characters that frame has next to each other.
(so, no returns or shift returns, just plain characters next to each other on 1 single line.)

In A we have typed the words “Adobe Indesign” and in B we typed some random characters.
Result: The width of A adapts dynamically to the amount of characters next to each other in that frame.
But text frame “B” remains at it’s original position we placed it earlier next to text frame “A”

Is it possible, no matter how many characters we type in text frame A (more or less characters), text frame “B” moves equally to the right and/or back to the left?

I tried to figure this out with tables, but I cannot seem to find that the colums width auto-changes in width based on the amount of characters it contains next to each other.
Indesign places the text that reaches the end of that cell to a next line. (which makes sense obviously)

I hope my questions makes sense? :)

Any expert that knows the answer?

What if you anchor frame B within frame A?

hey! that works indeed! Why didn’t I think bout that! :-) Kudos for Dieter! Thanks!

Additional question: Let’s say I have a design that has a certain width.
The position of the right side of frame B must stay in position at all times, …. is that possible

So that A only changes from left to right, and B only changes from right to left …

I have this assignment which would make this very awesome. :)

Not sure I understood your request, but what about applying text wrap to frame A?
Maybe some screenshots might help for better understanding…

You could simply create a frame with two columns to achieve this. Just add a column break between “A” content and “B” content.

Sorry for late respons, … deadlines.

I will test some off the suggestions and give feedback asap.
