I am using open PSD files in my INDD document. I want the text in the images to be 100% black. I have done this in Photoshop, but this creates a black knockout in the other color channels, not a black overprint. Will this print properly? Is there a way to make it black on on all the channels?

You need to be careful about having black on all 4 channels. For example, l you never want 400% ink (100% each of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black).

Is it important for the text to be set in Photoshop? Normally, the best practice would be to place the PSD in InDesign and use InDesign’s text tools to handle the text.

One question: is the Photoshop image set to CMYK or RGB (in photoshop)?

I’m not sure that I understand you.
The file originally had a black text that was comprised of CMYK mixture. We dont want that. We want the text to be 100% black, so we made the CMY=0 and the K=100 for the text.
Is there any other way to reach my goal, without causing the black knockout on the other channels?
Also, if there is white on the other channels where the text is, will this cause problems at print if the plates aren’t aligned?
To answer your questions: In this project, there is a team working on the images, and then they are placed by someone else in INdesign.
Yes the images are in CMYK.

      I dont understand you?
      A 100% black text will result in: C:0, Y:0, M:0 and K: 100.
You cant have pure black text with something beneath.

But du your self a favor, and place the image in InDesign and make the text there, not in PhotoShop.

And no, a proper printing office will not have problems in aligning the 4 plates :)
