This Week in InDesign Articles, Number 43

Whether you're into interactive or print, there's always more to learn about Adobe InDesign!

It’s blustery and rainy! A good day to stay inside and work with InDesign. Of course, no matter where or who you are, there is always more to learn about InDesign… fortunately, besides a bunch of blog posts this week, we have lots of other resources available for you.

  • I just saw a post on our forums that a 6.0.6 patch for InDesign CS4 has come out. Nice to know that Adobe is still working on bug-fixing earlier versions.
  • Who doesn’t love fonts? If you want to dig up some of the great modern history of fonts, you need to read the old back issues of U&lc, now available as PDF. Not the best scan quality (parts cut off) but it’s better than nothing! (An uncle of mine, the late New York typographer Mac Baumwell, was, I believe, an editor of U&lc at some point in its history. Looking forward to finding those issues.)
  • Interested in XML? Dorothy Hoskins strikes again with this InDesign XML Publishing: College Catalog Case Study.
  • Look: InDesign is great software, but if history is any judge, it will probably be knocked off its throne within 5 to 10 years by some other software. Fortunately, folks at Adobe are already looking at how to perhaps reinvent the page-layout app themselves, and have released a beta version of an AIR app called ROME. You can check out ROME here. (Mike Rankin has already used the “after all, it wasn’t built in a day” pun with me… oy!)
  • Do you like to keep up with what’s happening in the Creative Suite, but you don’t know where to look? Bookmark the Adobe Creative Suite Updates blog.

  1. I should’ve waited until this week to buy the book for not only the lower price tag; but near parity of $US and $AUD… bugger.

  2. @Ryan: I’d file a bug on that…

  3. Just tried to insert a CMYK image in to a ROME file… Says it is unsupported color mode == CMYK. I guess print is dead :(.

  4. David Blatner

Oh my, I just noticed that Liz Castro’s ebook is also deal of the week at peachpit: only $9.99.
