Stylish New Fonts and Goodies from House Industries

Every design discipline resides at the crossroads of art, influence, relevance, inspiration and function. Though such intersections are rarely crossed without difficulty, Alexander Girard navigated these highways with an ease few could match.
The House Industries Girard Collection was produced in conjunction with the Girard estate and Máximo.
Type
Alexander Girard was a master at utilizing lettering and type as practical, illustrative and readable elements. This new font collection revives his spirit with three display fonts and a versatile multi-weight/width family. Add Girard’s signature folk sensibilities to any design project with type that works seamlessly in any contemporary publishing environment.

Puzzle
Based on a Girard carpet design found in the project archive for Eero Saarinen’s Miller House in Columbus, Indiana. Made in the USA from replenishable basswood and printed with child-safe non-toxic inks.

Memory Game
Girard’s folk aesthetic abounds in this cornucopia of illustrative delights. He originally created these images for his environmental enrichment panels that he designed to spice up Herman Miller’s Action Office plan. Each game comes with 72 pieces and a limited-edition wooden box. Handmade in the USA out of replenishable basswood and printed with child-safe non-toxic inks.

Dolls
After receiving a Marilyn Neuhart doll as a gift from Ray Eames, Alexander Girard was so smitten that he asked her to make 100 for his T&O store. Since they were the catalyst for his collaboration with the Neuharts, House asked Marilyn to create these new dolls. Made in the USA with Mexican cotton from the same mill that she used for her originals.

T-Shirts
Available in men’s, women’s, girl’s and boy’s sizes in a variety of styles and colors.

Alphabet Blocks
These functionally playful alphabet blocks bring an unobtrusive distinctiveness to any well-appointed living room while affording hours of educational and aesthetic pleasure for young design sophisticates. Created in late 2006 to coordinate with the San Francisco MoMA’s Girard exhibit, the 28 wood blocks feature a cleverly-adapted House Industries factory logo puzzle. Made in the USA and printed with child-safe non-toxic inks.

Nativity
Alexander Girard amassed a huge collection of nativities, most of which he spent the last years of his life curating for his wing at the International Museum of Folk Art in Santa Fe. House thought it would be an appropriate homage to create a completely new nativity based on a Girard illustration that hangs in his son’s house. Made in the USA from solid maple and replenishable basswood. Printed with child-safe non-toxic inks.
