e frontier announced today that it plans to offer an Universal Binary version of its Shade 8 software for Intel® Core{mt} Duo processor-based Macintosh. Shade 8 users will get a free upgrade to Shade 8.5 when the software is released in Spring ’06. Other features such as export capabilities to QuickTime VR will also be include in this upgrade.
Sunny Wong, Director of Engineering, Shade Division, said, “Artists and designers are going to be blown away when they use Shade’s powerful rendering engine and the Intel-based Mac. Shade is going to be much faster and more responsive.”
New Intel-based Macs are much faster than PowerPC-based Macintosh computers provided that the software is optimized for the new CPU. Running natively on the Intel Mac, performance of Shade 8.5 is increased by almost 200%.
Beside support of Intel-based Macs, there will be a wide range of new features and improvements in Shade 8.5
- 3D Sound: users will be able to import and export sound files.
- QuickTime VR Export
- Path Constraints Plug-in: permitting easy linked motion.
- FogPlus plug-in: for advanced fog effects

- PoserFusion: bounding box display is supported
- ShadeExplorer: support of background and sound catalog
