Scanning Around With Gene: When Are You in “Good Enough” Shape?
Return to page 1.
I decided to join a local Community Center, which has a health club as part of the package. The whole place is oriented toward families and other people like me, not your aggressive gym crowd. And if I go at the right time, I’m one of the younger guys in the place, so fitness becomes a somewhat relative concept.

When going through these muscle magazines (which I found at a local thrift shop), I noticed quite a few ads and articles about sexual performance. I don’t know what that says about body builders except that being in great shape doesn’t necessarily instill sexual confidence. But then neither does being out of shape.

I hope someday I’m in better shape and may even have a body I’m proud of.

But I can certainly say without reservation that I’ll never grace the cover of Muscle Power magazine.
