Scanning Around With Gene: The Most Important Meal of the Day
Return to page 1.
Pancakes are one of the oldest foods known to man and go back to prehistoric times. As long as we’ve had seeds, nuts, and grains, we’ve been combining them with water or milk to make a paste and then baking or drying them to make a flat cake.

Bacon, of course, is not limited to breakfast — it generally describes a certain cut of meat, usually pork. But for some reason bacon is most associated with breakfast, as is sausage, at least in the United States.

Eggs may be associated with breakfast because they were harvested from the chickens early in the morning, as was the milk from cows. More than any other meal, breakfast is associated with certain food items and it is, among some people, considered a special treat to have breakfast for dinner.

Personally, I love a good breakfast and it’s my favorite meal to eat out. I can go for classic eggs and potatoes, a waffle, pancakes, or even a bowl of hot oatmeal. But please don’t ask me to eat something called Pablum, which just doesn’t sound very appetizing.
