Right Hemisphere Deep Paint
Deep paint is a premier plug-in for serious artistic designers looking for that real-life quality to their graphics. Its principal selling point its ability to let the creative side run free, whether it’s with unrealistic tools like “Image Spray” or the traditional paint, charcoal and crayon. Unique to Deep Paint are the Bump, Shine, and Lighting controls. Toggling all three adjusts the shading, reflectivity and spotlighting of an object; effectively adjusting it’s 3D appearance.
Richard Romano, managing editor of Micro Publishing News has few negative words for Deep Paint in his review. While he acknowledges that it’s only available for Windows and not the more graphics-intensive Mac platform, he admits “For artists or designers who want to add other dimensions to their illustrations, I can think of no better value for the money than this $250 program.”
Bob Weibel of ComputerCurrents.com weighs Deep Paint’s strengths and weaknesses fairly equally in his review, ‘fessing up to the messy interface and RAM-sucking size while gushing over the range of 3D possibilities.
Although short, C/Net’s review is good to read if you want a quick judgement. Their “bottom line”? “Second to none for graphic artists and even design newbies who want to create ultrarealistic digital paintings and designs. But it’s not a Photoshop replacement.”
