Are your images all 72ppi actual resolution (the one you set in Photoshop, as opposed to effective resolution, when you scale it down in the layout to make it high res). If so, then they’re all essentially embedded in the InDesign file, as it makes the full size previews when you place the images. So, when you zoom and scroll, InDesign has to recalculate the display from a lot of information. I’ve never tested it for real, but my hunch is that could have something to do with it.
