PhotoShelter Offers Photographers Additional Revenue Stream

PhotoShelter Inc., the leading e-commerce and image storage destination for more than 32,000 professional and amateur photographers, today announced the availability of personal use licensing through its PhotoShelter Personal Archive system, providing PhotoShelter Personal Archive users with an additional revenue stream for their business. While it was already possible for photographers to sell their images directly to customers as prints, in addition to rights-managed and royalty-free licensing, the new personal use license enables them to retain all necessary rights while allowing their images to be used for desktop wall papers, cell phone backgrounds, on social networking sites and other personal use applications.
“In the past few years, we’ve seen a dramatic shift in the consumer’s ability to manage digital images,” said Grover Sanschagrin, PhotoShelter’s Vice President of Business Development. “Consumers are increasingly interested in using images as their desktop wall paper, or as a screen-saver image, or even on their iPhone™ and other handheld devices. The new personal use license makes this possible while still protecting the photographer’s right to limit how their images can be used.”
As consumers continue to adopt new digital devices and rely on web-based communication in their daily lives, they seek new ways to personalize their media with distinctive images that represent their individuality. The personal use license allows consumers to purchase and download an image for personal, non-commercial use in situations such as school presentations, screen savers, desktop wallpaper, on a cell phone or to include in a social network profile, such as MySpace® or Facebook®.
The Personal Archive is PhotoShelter’s online solution that enables photographers to archive, protect, distribute and sell their images online with powerful tools including galleries, slideshows, lightboxes, ecommerce capabilities, and website customization. PhotoShelter users have already embraced the new licensing option to generate additional sales, including photographers with specialties in weddings and special events, portraits, and sports.
PhotoShelter makes it easy for photographers to maximize the revenue their archive can generate. PhotoShelter users control the pricing for images made available for personal use licensing by attaching prices which range from $8.00 to $60.00.
