Pantone Flight Stools Fly Into Barneys New York's Windows

Pantone, Inc., the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, today announced that Barneys New York will feature the limited-edition PANTONE Flight Stool in the windows of its 660 Madison Avenue flagship here from August 2-23.

Designed and crafted by London-based design team Barber Osgerby, each stool is handmade with 10 sheets of birch plywood veneer, lacquered and laminated, then silk-screened with the individual identifying PANTONE Number. The collection comprises eight color sets, each with six gradations of color, for a total range of 48 PANTONE Colors. The PANTONE Flight Stool is available at Barneys New York for $600.
“The PANTONE® Flight Stool brings the iconic PANTONE Chip – universally recognized by artists and designers – to life in three dimensions,” said Jay Osgerby, co-principal, Barber Osgerby. “It is the merging of a graphic language with a functional object in a way that has not been seen since the Pop Art era. Art meets object in an interesting tension between the graphic and the real.”
“The PANTONE Stools are surreal and wacky, but also rather gorgeous – a perfect fit with Barneys,” enthused Simon Doonan, creative director, Barneys New York. “In the windows, we are showing the PANTONE Stools in big sculptural piles with the best of the fall collections. Who ever thought the PANTONE Chip could become a piece of furniture? The whole thing is very groovy!”
This summer, the PANTONE Flight Stool has been featured in two London exhibits, one at the Design Museum and another at The Blue Gallery. The Flight Stool was originally made for the Freedom Brewing Co. in Central London, and is in the permanent collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum.
The PANTONE Flight Stool is the latest addition to the PANTONE UNIVERSEâ„¢ product line, which includes a pattern of fine china dishes and glassware, and a collection of stationery and office supplies.
