New Micro Four-Thirds Camera Boasts Very High ISO
The new 16-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX1 shoots both stills and video. Thanks to a micro four-thirds system, it has interchangeable lenses but is smaller than traditional digital SLRs. When it hits store shelves next month, it will be available in three price points:
1. DMC-GX1 body only: $700
2. DMC-GX1-K body with a 14-42 standard zoom lens: $800
3. DMC-GX1-X body with a Lumix G X VARIO PZ 14-42mm / F3.5-5.6 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S (H-PS14042) lens: $950
You can use the camera’s body with all 14 of the Lumix G Series micro four-thirds lenses and, once you add a mount adapter, four-thirds system lenses from other manufacturers.

Both hobbyists and pros will welcome the high ISO (maximum 12800) when the lights are low. Add to that a fast, accurate auto-focus capability and you’re less likely to miss shots.
The camera comes with a 3″ touch LCD, which you can use to focus and release the shutter. You can also add an external viewfinder if you prefer that way of composing shots.
You can also shoot HD video in the AVCHD and MP4 formats. The DMC-GX1 captures sound with the Dolby Digital Stereo Creator.
