New Artistry Workshop and Tutorials
Karen Sperling is pleased to announce a new workshop and a new suite of tutorials for learning Corel Painter IX.
The new, one-day workshop is with Corel Painter Watercolorist Nomi Wagner and Expert Printmaker Gerry Beane, which Karen is offering as part of her February 2006 Artistry Corel Painter Retreat in Southern California.
Participants will learn Nomi’s techniques for using photographs as the basis for her traditional watercolor portraits in Painter.
They will then find out the answers to their printing questions from Gerry Beane, who prints paintings for both Nomi and for other clients.
The new set of tutorials, the Artistry Painting for Photographers Suite of Tutorials for Corel Painter IX, gathers into a gift set Karen’s popular Artistry tutorials for turning photos into paintings and adding painterly effects to photos.
Included for the first time on CD are all of the first 12 issues of Karen’s Artistry Tips and Tricks ezine, where readers will find both Painter steps and art lessons, and endless options and suggestions for how to enhance their photos in Painter, including various watercolor and oil styles for both portraits and landscapes, and tips about painting in revered artists’ styles including Rembrandt and Hopper.
Students attending the February 24, 2006 Artistry workshop will learn how to do watercolors in Corel Painter IX from Nomi Wagner, who started out as a traditional photographer, having had a store front portrait studio in Santa Monica, CA for many years. She was an early student of Karen Sperling’s when Karen moved to California in 1995. Nomi went on to study traditional portraiture technique at art school, sold her photography studio and turned to painting watercolor portraits in Painter full time.
Passionate about portraiture, first as an acclaimed photographer and now as a watercolor artist, Nomi fills her paintings with warmth and emotion. As a pioneer and master in the field of digital painting, Nomi brings fine art portrait painting to an exciting new dimension. Her work has been featured in books, magazines, and on television.
Gerry Beane, who will talk about his printing technqiues, is a long-time technical expert, having been an engineer at Xerox for many years. He initially got into printmaking to print Nomi’s paintings and has since become a well-respected printmaker to clients nationally.
Karen Sperling, who has been writing about and teaching Corel Painter longer than anyone, is happy to offer students this rare opportunity to meet these extraordinary Painter professionals and to learn from their successes for inspiration in their own Painter pursuits.
Participants can either just attend the one-day workshop on Friday, February 24, 2006, or they can also learn how to paint oil and pastel portraits and landscapes in Corel Painter from Karen Sperling in the Artistry Corel Painter Retreat, taking place on the three days prior to the workshop with Nomi Wagner and Gerry Beane, Tuesday through Thursday, February 21-23, 2005.
Karen Sperling, who also paints commissioned portraits, and whose Painter art has been included in group shows and is held in private collections around the world, wrote the first several Painter manuals when the program debuted, in addition to several Painter books. She has taught Painter since the program’s inception in 1991 to everyone from artists at Disney Feature Animation to photographers at Professional Photographers of America (PPA) affiliate schools. She has been named a speaker for the WPPI 2006 convention. Karen teaches not only the Painter steps, but also the art concepts that attendees need to know to create paintings in Corel Painter, either from scratch, or from photos.
For those who are unable to attend the Artistry Retreats, the Artistry Painting for Photographers Suite of Tutorials for Corel Painter IX provide a great alternative.
Covering both Painter steps and also art concepts, the Artistry tutorials contain written steps for photographers interested in turning their photos into paintings and adding painterly touches to photos. All the individual image files are included for the student to follow along with the tutorials.
