Move Selected Paragraphs

Two scripts to move one or more selected paragraphs in a list. One script for moving them up, the other, for moving them down.

This script is part of the Type and Text collection. See the full collection here.ย

In various lists you often need to move around some paragraphs to fix glitches in the way the list was sorted. Bibliographies and indexes are typical examples. Selecting, cutting, and pasting paragraphs is tedious, especially if you need to move a lot of them.

The attached two scripts make that easy: select one or more paragraphs and run move_par_up.jsx to move the selected paragraphs one paragraph up, and/or move_par_down.jsx to move them down by one paragraph. Running the scripts repeatedly moves them up and down a list quickly.

A note on selecting paragraphs: to select a single paragraph, simply click somewhere in it โ€’ no need so select the whole paragraph. To select more than one paragraph, again, no need to select the whole block: from somewhere in the middle of the first paragraph to somewhere in the middle of the last one will do.

Naturally, when you do this a lot you want to apply keyboard shortcuts to the scripts.
