Letter from the Editor
Have you ever heard of the concept of the beginner’s mind? It’s the idea that even top experts should embrace and embody the openness and curiosity of someone excited to learn a new skill. It’s the opposite of stuck-up authorities who think they know it all, and have nothing left to learn. All of my favorite CreativePro authors, speakers, and trainers personify the beginner’s mind. They love learning as much as teaching, and they have fun with it all. This is no coincidence either, as the person who most exemplifies the beginner’s mind is the man at the top of CreativePro, David Blatner. David knows more about InDesign than anyone else I know, yet (or perhaps because) he’s always thrilled to learn a new trick or shortcut.
So, I’m very excited to have several articles in this issue that address the beginner’s perspective. First, in our feature article, Lindsey Engelhardt takes you on the journey from zero to hero in “How to Get Started with Accessible Design.”
Next, Rob de Winter’s “Getting Started with Photoshop on the iPad” will get you up and running in no time, so you can use your favorite image-editing tools and techniques wherever you go.
Alan Gilbertson offers a fun and thought-provoking piece on whether you can learn to be creative. Spoiler Alert: Yes, you can, and Alan shows you the way.
Chad Chelius reviews GuideGuide, a plug-in that gives you amazing abilities for manipulating guides and grids. Chad was so wowed by it that he felt like a beginner, discovering all sorts of cool new abilities in his favorite programs.
Our Resource of the Month is a nifty novel template for InDesign in four common trim sizes.
We close with a batch of content from CreativePro.com, including articles on the importance of word spacing, accessing history in InDesign, tips for working with color swatches in Illustrator, and finding free images and inspiration on Flickr.
Enjoy!
