How to Set a Specific Paragraph Rule Length in InDesign
Learn how to create a horizontal rule with a set width that also travels with its associated text.

In this Three Minutes Max video, Bart Van de Wiele shows how to set a paragraph rule that remains a set length, independent of the text or frame width. By setting up a custom stroke style, he is able to control the length and incorporate it into a paragraph style for easy updating.
Three Minutes Max comes from a fun—yet very competitive—session at our annual CreativePro Week conference. Speakers have three minutes (max!) to wow the audience with the tip and win a prize for a lucky conference attendee.

Hi Bart, thanks for the tip. Of course, there is one restriction: the width of the text frame must not be narrower than the 80 mm line length defined here, otherwise the line will be correspondingly shorter.
Greetings Robert
Always nice to see folks messing with stroke styles!
