Gutenberg The Musical?
If you’re as out of touch with the off-Broadway scene as I am, you too will be surprised to hear that “Gutenberg! The Musical!” is not only an actual show, but it’s been around since 2006. Written by Scott Brown and Anthony King, it’s a musical spoof of the business of Broadway.
I guess Brown and King thought that a play about Johann Gutenberg could be nothing but farce, but you and I know better. It’s high time someone sang the praises (literally!) of the printing press inventor with lyrics like these:
Gutenberg
Darn tootinberg.
He’s the best chap around
That lives in this town
Sure as shootinberg.
For much more about the show, go to its website. And if you’re lucky enough to be in San Francisco between now and June 26, 2010, you can see “Gutenberg! The Musical!” live at the Exit Stage LeftTheatre. The designer of its fetching poster is, sadly uncredited:

Could this be my new favorite musical? Hmm. Yes! Yes, it could.
