Font 006 Takes Readers on a Tour of Design in Locales Less Travelled
The latest issue of FontShop’s acclaimed publication of typography and design, Font 006 serves as both an provocative editorial magazine and a typeface catalog highlighting the latest releases from FontShop. A subscription to the magazine is free.
The not-so-old adage is pretty simple: “Think globally. Act locally.” Font 006 won’t give you any tips on sorting recyclables, but it will suggest another interesting idea: “Think globally. Design locally.”
In this issue of Font, writer Amos Klausner endeavors to bring back some of the wonder that comes with design exploration. Five capsules on design from underreported regions of the world take readers to South Africa, Sarajevo, São Paulo, Iran, and Havana.
“In sharing these stories, we hope designers will gain an appreciation for the wide variety of contributions made to our design community each and every day,” said Klausner. “We also encourage readers to think about preserving the diversity of our design culture and even integrating these kinds of cultural nuances back into their own practice.”
As usual, Font 006 offers a slew of new font showings and typographic eye candy. With design by Conor Mangat and editorial direction from Klausner and Stephen Coles, Font 006 is another trove of design inspiration and edification.
