First Annual International Color Awards Shines a Spotlight on Color Photograpy

An international photography awards has been launched exclusively for color photography. International Color Awards will honor the best color work from photographers around the globe as nominated by an illustrious jury of leading industry creatives from New York to Shanghai and will be webcast live January 25, 2005.
Basil O’Brien, Creative Director of the awards says “Our mission is to exhibit the best color work from around the world before a judging panel of commercial photography creatives who buy and book assignments.” Principal guests already on the judging panel include top Getty Images creatives from New York and Los Angeles, leading advertising agencies Young & Rubicam and Crispin Porter + Bogusky, and Michael Klein, the talented curator and buyer responsible for the Microsoft art collection. “We are honored to have such luminaries supporting our vision,” say’s O’Brien.
Winners will be presented with $10,000 in funding through the awards “Grants for Color Photography” program. In addition, the grand award winner will receive a one-year rights deal with International Color Awards to promote their winning work. The winning work will be published in “Graphis” the International Journal of Visual Communication and “book|BASIL” the photographic sourcebook and winning images will be marketed through www.thecolorawards.com providing photographers with worldwide exposure.
“We are committed to supporting color photography through the promotion of both up-and-coming and established photographers,” says Michelle Hill, President of the grants program. “These grants will allow winning photographers to use their talents to bring more creativity to light.”
Nominees will vie for 60 title awards in 20 categories and the coveted title awards: “International Color Awards Photographer of the Year;” the “Creative Excellence Prize;” and the “Outstanding Achievement Award” in the various categories.
The competition is open to photographers worldwide shooting in all forms of color photography – entry fees are: $35 | Euro30 | £25 for professionals and $30 | Euro25 | £20 for amateurs.
