Digimarc Benefits From Growing Adoption of Digital Image Watermarking by Motion Picture Industry

Digimarc Corporation (NASDAQ: DMRCE) today announced growing momentum within the motion picture industry for its enhanced Digimarc® ImageBridge™ watermarking and tracking solution, which it launched in 2004. The company recently signed its third ImageBridge deal with a U.S. movie studio, which has integrated Digimarc’s ImageBridge solution with their existing North Plains’ TeleScope™ digital asset management system as a means to protect the studio’s brand images as they are distributed electronically.
Digimarc is playing an increasing role in marketing compliance programs for media rights holders. In particular, three major motion picture studios are using Digimarc ImageBridge to place digital watermarks that carry unique, imperceptible digital identifiers in images. This practice allows owners of entertainment content to track usage compliance as the images are distributed to production and distribution partners.
“Content owners need a way of attaching ownership and other information to content, so that wherever files are found, the information is always there. Not only does this deter the pre-release piracy that is a scourge of the media industry, but it also helps make workflow processes more efficient. Digital watermarking is an ideal way of doing this, and it’s good to see that leading content providers are working with Digimarc to put digital watermarking into production,” said Bill Rosenblatt, president of GiantSteps Media Technology Strategies and editor of the newsletter DRMWatch.com.
Digimarc solutions enable studios to:
- Add a layer of security to the distribution of valuable still image assets through production and marketing channels
- Track, monitor and report potential production channel leaks, as well identify the source of those leaks
- Uniquely identify digital images with copyright information
- Monitor the public Internet to search for instances of digitally watermarked image assets
“Digimarc ImageBridge is a great complement to the studios’ application of digital asset management to improve workflow and distribution efficiency,” said Andy Mallinger, director, Digital Image Solutions at Digimarc. “We’re pleased to provide this important layer of identification and security to aide our customers’ marketing compliance and rights management programs.”
