I cleaned out my filing cabinets this weekend. Despite the name, there are very few paper files in them, but loads of cables with obsolete connectors, software CDs I haven’t used in this century, bits of obscure electronic devices, and one ancient laptop with severe hard-drive and video card disorders.
I’m sure many of you can relate to my cabinets’ contents and to the dilemma they pose. We can’t just chuck the junk in the trash. Some of it might leak hazardous waste, and all of it would add to landfills already full. While surfing the Web for a solution, I came across GreenDisk. It’s a company that picks up, disposes of, or recycles what it calls "technotrash."
There are several elements that set GreenDisk apart from other things I’ve heard of. I love that it comes to me. Also, it wipes data from everything so I don’t have to worry about privacy breaches or identity theft. Companies who have a recycling mandate will appreciate that GreenDisk verifies each transaction so you can prove your technotrash was handled safely. GreenDisk even sells CD cases made from 100% recycled materials.
