Creative Christmas-Themed Diversions
Let’s get real: If you celebrate Christmas, it’s hard to concentrate on work this week. To alleviate any guilt that may cause you, I’ve compiled a selection of Christmas-themed ads and greetings. You can look at them and tell yourself you’re gathering ideas for next year’s campaigns and cards.
The Heineken Nutcracker comes to us from ad agency Y&R Puerto Rico.

Adobe’s Experience Design (XD) team created an animated greeting that’s cute and clever. Click the screenshot below to go to the video. There are also “making of” videos.

The Swedish Postal Service went interactive for its Living Christmas Cards. You use a Web interface to choose which one of four cameras will provide the photo for your printed card, then enter greeting text. It was strangely thrilling to click among the cameras and watch real reindeer graze through the scene. Click the screenshot below (from the gallery, also worth a look) to go to the site and try it yourself.

When I think “Christmas,” I think “Man-Eating, Kung-Fu Fruitcake.” And so will you after you watch this video from Morris Branding:

There’s also a free Bad Fruitcake app.
This ad for chainsaw manufacturer Stihl, created by France’s Publicis conseil, makes me laugh:

ICM, a United Kingdom design agency, made the blog post “An ICM Ode to the Company Christmas Card” do double duty as a shout out to their clients and a fun look into what happens at agencies every year. Here’s an excerpt:
Tis the month before Christmas, and all through the place,
The creatives are stirring for the Christmas Card race.
Outside the snow is falling, bringing festive cheer.
Inside we’re brainstorming, for that brilliant idea…

Matt wants superb printing and Ian wants it cheap,
Maria loves origami and Caroline wants unique
Melissa likes recycled, Andy a font that’s fine,
Louise wants a photo and Richard great design.

Will it be uncoated with plenty of folds?
No-one can think straight, we’re all full of colds.
What about recycled, glossy or matt?
How about a picture of Humphrey in a hat?

You can read the rest on the ICM blog.
