Are new internet technologies and copyright destined for perpetual conflict?
How will copyright law change in reflection of the new ways people access and share content, and what will those changes mean for the music, film and publishing industries?
What new attitudes toward copyright are emerging in our society at large as we move forward in the digital age?
What do changes in technology, law and society mean for artists and writers who produce copyrighted content?
These are some of the critical issues that will be addressed at Copyright Clearance Center’s OnCopyright 2008 symposium, Thursday, May 1st at the Union League Club, 38 East 37th St., New York.
OnCopyright 2008 will bring together thought leaders and change agents to exchange ideas about where copyright is headed and what those changes mean for the future of written works, music, movies and other types of intellectual property.
The symposium will be organized around four themes: technology, society, law and the arts. The technology panel will focus on digital technologies that challenge established rules for content distribution and sharing. The panel focused on society will consider how these developments impact social norms and behaviors. The law panel will look at how copyright law can influence or be influenced by these developments, and the arts panel will feature writers and other artists discussing the significance of these trends to them.
