If you’re the kind of person who enjoys photography, working with your hands, and retro anything, then Last Camera is the thing for you. It’s a build-it-yourself analog camera kit from a Japanese company called PowerShovel, Ltd.
Assembling the camera is no trivial task. It can take up to 3 or 4 hours, according to the website.
Last Camera comes with two interchangeable lenses (22mm and 45mm), and a switch that you can use to allow light to leak inside and create random color effects that look like Instagram filters.
Additional parts are available for sale, so you can give your camera extra features and/or a unique look.
Even if you’re not interested in building a wacky plastic camera that leaks light, the Challenge videos on the Last Camera website are worth checking out (or at least scrubbing through—they’re long). You get to see various folks doing their best to assemble a Last Camera while were being filmed and timed.
Last Camera sells for ¥3,900 (currently about $38 US)
