Be Alert for Missing Links When Using the CS4 Packaging Feature
There’s a rather lengthy discussion in progress right now on the Mac InDesign User to User forum regarding some problems with InDesign CS4’s packaging feature.
It’s been suggested that the issue is caused by link file names that contain slashes (/ or \) but some users are reporting links missing even if the file names do not contain those figures. It was pointed out that as soon as InDesign encounters a file with a slash (/ or \) the packaging stops immediately with no error so even one file with a slash can cause many missing links.
Because there’s no way to name a file with a slash in it on Windows this appears to be a Mac only problem.
Adobe is working on this but in the mean time, caution should be exercised. Some of the workarounds are manually copying all the files or exporting to INX and packaging from CS3.
Update: This issue has been addressed with the 6.0.2 update!
