Apple LaserWriter 8500
Apple LaserWriter 8500
Although granted full access to the Apple company’s trademark design skills, the LaserWriter 8500 was unfortunately also hit by Apple’s refocusing on graphics. This may not be the printer for larger offices to invest in. The LaserWriter 8500 is a competent machine though, “the fastest LaserWriter printer ever” according to the Apple website. With a combination of fast RISC processing (printing speeds of up to 20 pages per minute) and full-bleed capabilities on a range of paper sizes, it can handle most medium-sized workgroups. An added bonus is the inclusion of Adobe Postscript Level 3, but how much of an added bonus depends on the review you’re reading.
ZDNet’s review is mixed. They defer the editor’s pick to a competitor, concluding: “Although the LaserWriter 8500’s excellent output compares well, its spotty performance and cumbersome management tools for PC networks are still tough to overlook.” Macworld offers a similar view, averring that the LaserWriter 8500’s speed aren’t enough to overcome its spotty resolution.
