Adobe Slashes Prices on Web and Production Suites, Lightroom

Adobe continues to clean out its pre-CS6 product inventory with special deals on three packages: Creative Suite 5.5 Web Premium and CS5.5 Production and Lightroom 3 are all available at 50 percent off. Additionally, Adobe has extended its deal of 20 percent off CS5.5 upgrades until March 15.
The half-price offer for Web and Production Premium suites end on March 2 and requires a coupon code for purchase through the Adobe store only. Lightroom 3 — 50 percent off until March 5 &8212; does not require coupon activation.
While CS5.5 Design Premium (which includes InDesign) is not part of the deal, creative pros who need the latest versions of Photoshop Extended, Illustrator, and Acrobat Pro may find the Web Premium package fills that need. The Web Premium suite, which also includes six more Web-specific apps like Dreamweaver, is on sale for $899, down from $1,799. ProDesignTools notes: “This is the lowest price ever on one of Adobe’s most popular Creative Suites”.
The Production Premium suite — which also includes Photoshop Extended and Illustrator — is more finely tuned to video and film production. (See the full list of products for both suites.).
With Lightroom 4 now in public beta, the price of Lightroom 3 has been cut to $149 from $299.
The backstory to the 20 percent-off upgrade offer is a bit more interesting. Adobe originally began offering the discount on the heels of a new policy announced in November 2011 that granted discounted upgrade pricing only to CS5.5 owners. In other words, Adobe said that owners of CS3 or CS4 would not be entitled to lower upgrade pricing — the first time Adobe would not be honoring its ‘three-versions-back” upgrade program. The thinking seemed to be: Upgrade to CS5.5 at a discount now and you’ll qualify for CS6 upgrade pricing later.
But the hordes of Adobe users rebelled. Due to tremendous user backlash, Adobe has since reversed its upgrade policy, meaning that owners of CS3 and CS4 will be entitled to upgrade incentive pricing as well. Owners of CS3 and CS4 can read about it here.
